Looking for characterful poultry? At Hemley Hill Farm, we have a wonderful eclectic mix of heritage and hybrid poultry for sale.

Our poultry are all free-range and we pay the utmost attention to their care and welfare, in fact it’s fair to say they’re quite spoilt.

Under the watchful eyes of Albert our resident Gander who takes his job as chicken guardian very seriously, they spend their time outdoors scratching and foraging, dust bathing on sunny days and squabbling over juicy worms. This glorious outdoor life, combined with consuming the best feed, means our poultry are not only happy and healthy but in our opinion lay the tastiest eggs for miles around.

Our breeds are carefully selected for their good looks, hardiness, and egg appeal – colour and taste!

Below are just some of the Chickens we can supply at POL:

April 2026 – Copper Black Marans, Light Sussex, CouCous, Bluebells, Columbian Black Tail and Warrens – all POL available now!   New for 2026 QUAIL are available – call for details. 

Light Sussex -The Sussex is a very attractive medium sized, traditional style white bird with black hackle feathers around the neck and on the tail. Quiet temperament. They are capable of laying approximately 290 light to mid brown eggs per year.

Black Rock –This breed is a friendly docile bird and probably one of the most successful hybrid for modern free-range. A highly developed natural immune system means they have the potential to have a long and productive life laying around 280 to 300 tinted brown eggs a year depending on their conditions.

Bluebell –The Bluebell is a very attractive larger hen in shades of light to dark grey/blue. They are capable of laying approximately 300 eggs per year, the eggs are brown with an unusual ‘plum’ tint.

Rhode Rock –  Rhode Rocks are very easy to manage and are usually  friendly birds. They have chestnut accents over their dark feathered bodies. They are hardy and withstand disease and stress. Superb layers capable of producing 330 brown eggs per year. An ideal first bird.

Columbian Black Tail -This breed are friendly and inquisitive birds.  Light brown feathered with some black tail feathers. They are capable of laying around 300 brown eggs per year

CouCou -The CouCou is a very attractive medium sized bird with barred silver/black feathering. They are capable of laying approximately 300 brown eggs per year.

All the hens we sell are a minimum of 16 weeks old and are the most comprehensively vaccinated in the UK (Vaccination sheet available upon request). Our birds are also blood tested. We ONLY sell birds if they are fit and well. We sell our hens with a ONE week guarantee against health problems. In the highly unlikely event you have concerns about your hens, please let us know immediately.

If a hen should die and you require a refund, please do not dispose of the bird until you have checked with us. We may need to order a post-mortem to establish the reason.

We cannot extend this guarantee to protect hens against predators (e.g. foxes, dogs etc), any hens that escape from their new home or for behavioural problems. We have a strong belief in the quality of our birds but we are unable to guarantee them for longer than a week as we cannot control their living conditions or any stress which they may be exposed to.

We occaisionally have heritage duck breeds for sale, including Saxony ducks – a dual purpose bird favoured for both its meat and egg laying ability, Muscovy ducks – which come in a range of colours, including all white varieties, Campbell ducks – a hardy duck which lays around 200 eggs a year, and rare Aylesbury ducks originating from right here, the Vale of Aylesbury. Aylesbury ducks are pure white and have a calm, friendly temperament. No Ducks available at the moment.
